Kuntal Shah
Program Coordinator, Design Coordinator, Battery Coordinator & Arranger
Kuntal Shah is the Program Coordinator for Enloe High School’s co-curricular and extracurricular ensembles, including Marching Band, Indoor Percussion, and Winter Guard. An Enloe alum himself (class of 2008), Kuntal brings deep-rooted passion and a personal connection to everything he does for the program. He collaborates closely with Mr. Hunter and the coordinator team to continually strengthen and evolve the program, with a focus on creating the best possible experience for students—especially within the unique context of a magnet school.
Outside of Enloe, Kuntal works in the clinical research industry, focusing on clinical trials for oncology therapies and hopeful cures. He holds a Master of Public Health degree and is passionate about contributing to the future of medicine. He divides his time between his research career, creative leadership at Carolina Indian Arts (a cultural dance academy he co-founded), and custom home design projects—including designing and building his own family home in Raleigh.
Kuntal earned his Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Percussion Performance from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he studied under Lynn Glassock and Matt Savage. During his time there, he served as Principal Percussionist of the Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Captain of the Marching Tar Heels, and was honored with the UNC Bands Director’s Award. He marched snare drum with the Madison Scouts in 2010. He was later selected to perform with the Scouts’ 75th Anniversary Corps of Brothers in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kuntal was also chosen to represent Yamaha Percussion in numerous DCI, Yamaha, and Madison Scouts posters, t-shirts, and promotional materials distributed nationwide.
Kuntal has remained a vital part of North Carolina’s band and percussion scene, offering program coordination, battery arranging, and consulting services to schools across the country. He has achieved numerous accolades and championships through his work with top programs and is excited to help Enloe strive for those same standards of excellence. His past roles include Battery Caption Head & Arranger for Alchemy Independent, Battery Instructor for Green Hope High School, Assistant Drumline Instructor at UNC, and Consultant with Carolina Gold. He is also an active adjudicator in the Music Effect and Percussion captions.
He co-founded the NC Percussion Symposium with Casey D’Sola, an educational initiative committed to making world-class percussion education accessible and affordable. The Symposium has hosted globally recognized clinicians and inspired countless students and educators across the state.
He spent four years in Michigan (2019–2023), where he worked with two World Class ensembles: Walled Lake Percussion and Redline Percussion.
Now back in North Carolina, Kuntal looks forward to continuing his mission of growing and empowering the percussion community. He lives in Raleigh with his wife and two dogs. In his free time, he enjoys traveling the world with his wife or checking out new restaurants and bars in town.
Kuntal is proudly endorsed by Dynasty Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Beetle Percussion, and is an Evans Drumheads Educator.
